Backyard Surprises

This weekend was full of awe moments. First of all, I HAVE AN INTERVIEW. What a blessing that is. Secondly, something I'll blog more on later, Sunday was Hampton Heights Baptist's 60th anniversary. 60 years in the ministry is  more than an amazing feet in today's world. We all only hope that we can continue ministering in our community.

In today's society we are constantly running, pushing ourselves to go fast, do faster, and everything is hurried. We often over look the unique and simple creations. Things that God took great detail to create. Our busy lives distract us from so much. God created so many amazing things. Each of them unique in their own way.We often times are so unaware of what God has created and the many blessings that we have in our lives and sometimes those blessings are just in our backyard. Those does days we actually stop and slow down, those creations just surprise us.
"and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky."
Genesis 1:20
Did you know?

1. There are seventeen different species of hummingbirds in North America.
2. Hummingbirds flap their wings at 50-200 times per second.
3. They can eat every ten minutes of the day. (sounds like me)
4. Following that, they consume 50% of their body weight in just one day!
5. They have a great memory.
6. They can fly up to 25-30mph

Hummingbirds are such interesting, unique creatures. I have tried constantly all summer to catch them either in flight or perched in our backyard, but as soon I would get to my camera they would be gone. Then, the day I was editing pictures there they were, several times actually, just outside on my mom's feeder.

This was my first spotting. It was just chilling on the dogs run line. I was like "oh snap!" and snapped a few. I was so excited that he flew away but I gave into patience and waited for him to come back.

And patience paid off! He arrived. There is his miraculous flapping wings. 50-200 times a minute. Can you believe that?

Here s/he is sun bathing.(just learned that fact) According to what I have been reading, when they puff up all cute like that they are sun bathing. They just love the sun.

Haha, I know that this isn't a hummingbird, but while I was snapping the other pictures I caught a sneaky squirrel. It is so amusing how sneaky they are...he deserves that bird food after what he went through to get that.
